Intaglio dates back to the fourteenth century when it was used to apply decorations on armor. You can see some great examples of Intaglio printing in our exhibit gallery Sept. 14 – Oct. 15. Students will etch a 5 x 7ā zinc plate that is first covered with an acid-resistant wax ground. An image is incised into the wax or resin layer with an etching needle. Finally the plate is dipped into acid. These acid-bitten areas hold the ink that will be run though a press and transferred to dampened paper.
