Dale Johnson has a fine art education, and Professor Emeritus after teaching painting and drawing for 42 years at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
“This exhibition is in part a completion of a dream, an item on my bucket list. I have fished and painted my way through this life. I am showing a series of paintings, drawings and monotype prints along the themes of shanty fishing and rural life,” states Johnson.
“In both Minnesota and Michigan people go out to winter fish in hand built shanties. They are portable and could move from spot to best spot on a lake or river. I have fished and painted this way. In the warm shanty small color studies can be started and then often finished in my studio where sometimes they are developed into larger canvases. These fishing shanty towns often develop into small cultures or communities, metaphors for life.”
