Needle Felting – Chickadee with Olivia Johnson

If you are looking for an interesting new art form then needle felting could be the answer. It is a combination of fibers and sculpture. Olivia will direct you in using barbed needles to create a little chickadee from wool fibers. Each student will receive a kit to take with them to continue exploring at home.

Dyed Infinity Silk Scarves with Kay Brennan

Choose from two summer opportunities. Create your own fashion by designing your own infinity scarves. This style of scarf is a giant loop of silk that can be layered and draped around the neck. Choose from a variety of rich colors that coordinate with your wardrobe. Each student will design two scarves. They will be dyed in class and then washed at home.

Whimsical Clay Houses with Kathy Richmond

Class Fee: $40 ($35 Members) Ages 12-Adult
Clay, architecture, colorful glazes and a skilled instructor – these are the perfect elements required for an interesting class. Join art instructor Kathy Richmond in creating miniature clay houses filled with interesting textures and architectural details. Houses are constructed from rolled slabs of clay and then the fun begins – shingles, shutters, arched doorways, textured chimneys. The combinations are endless. Your completed house could be filled with a tea light, placed in the garden or become a conversation piece in your home. All skill levels are welcome.

Woodcarving Walking Stick with Bruce Smith

In this class you will work with experienced wood carver Bruce Smith. Working with a sassafras root each participant will learn to strip the bark and then use carving tools to create their own unique walking stick. What will you see in the root, a bird, a dragon, a flower? These are not only functional walking sticks but also interesting art pieces.

By special request – a fall mosaic window class. Get ready to capture the beauty of the sun streaming though colorful glass. Come and join mosaic artist, Deb Emerick, and transform an old window into a colorful work of art using stained glass and other materials. Deb will guide you through the process of designing your window and then implementing your design using glass cutting and mosaic skills. Bring a family member and work on a window together. You may bring your own window or you may stop in at the Artsplace and select your window before the class sessions begin. Class size limited.

Basket Weaving – A Round Table Basket with Heather Fessenden

Award winning basket artist, Heather Fessenden, is offering an opportunity to learn the art and craft of basket weaving. In this class participants will learn to weave a beautiful and functional round table basket using various flat, oval and round reeds with sea grass filler. Custom Link Bracelet with Casey Bemis

In this class jewelry artist Casey Bemis will guide students through the process of creating a link bracelet customized to fit your wrist. Stunning in Silver with Cristine Grimm

Choose from two summer opportunities to explore Art Clay, the clay that turns to 99.9% pure silver when fired. We’ll start out small, making earrings or small pendants with basic techniques that can be used anywhere, anytime, without a kiln. Cristine Grimm, a certified Art Clay instructor, will bring all the tools and tricks necessary to create something you’ll enjoy wearing or adding to your next beading project. Cost includes silver clay, the use of all necessary tools, and a necklace and jump ring for wearing your jewelry out the door.

In this class participants will learn to use basic jewelry making tools and findings while designing their own matching set of necklace and earrings. Julie will skillfully guide you in exploring the endless combinations of interesting and colorful beads as you create your own unique fashion statement. Equipped with these new skills students will be able to continue creating pieces at home.

Mosaic Clay Pots with Mary Anderson

Transform an ordinary clay pot into a summer show piece. Mary will teach the art of mosaics using broken tile and china pieces. After learning the technique you will be able to go home and continue making artistic pots for your porch or deck.
