Shibori Dyed Infinity Silk Scarves with Kay Brennan

Ages 12- Adult

Kay has been experimenting with a new style of dyed silk scarves using the shibori design. During this two session class students will use the shibori technique to create two colorful infinity scarves. The first week will be spent learning the process and applying the first layers of dye. The second week additional colors will be added to create depth of color. This is an exciting process that will produce richly colored results. Call a group of friends and take this class together.

Introduction to Pottery on the Wheel with Whitney Korstange

Ages 12-Adult

Take this opportunity to learn a new skill – wheel thrown pottery. In this class students will learn the basics of wheel throwing including centering, opening, pulling walls of even thickness and basic shaping and trimming. The goal of the class is to teach the steps necessary so that students can continue working independently. The first and second class are spaced a week apart to allow for independent practice time. Class fee includes up to 25# of clay per person. Class size limited to 3.

Jeweler’s Bench: Metal Bracelets with Casey Bemis

Join jewelry artist Casey Bemis in the art of metalsmithing. In this class Casey will guide students through the process of creating a shaped and textured linked bracelet with rivets. Take advantage of this opportunity to experience a new jewelry making technique. Stop in and check out some of Casey’s own pieces in the NCCA-Artsplace Artist Market.

Matting and Framing Workshop

Ages 16-Adult

Learn the art of mat cutting for your own use or to prepare a gift for a special person. In this workshop you will learn about mat selection, how to properly measure, cut and mount your work, and assemble your frame. Each participant should bring an 8″ x 10″ piece of art or photograph (slightly smaller is fine) to frame. On the first day we will discuss materials, equipment, and mat selection. The second day we will cut mats and assemble frames. Some materials provided.

Pet Portraiture with Sharon Pollice

Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Capture your pets personality in paint! In this workshop, Sharon will put her 32 years teaching experience to work helping students create a vibrant colorful pet portrait. Students will need to capture a few close up photos of your pet, with good lighting, beforehand to work from during this workshop. We will explore color theory and painting techniques using new water based oil paints on canvas. You will not need any previous artistic experiences to enjoy this fun and memorable workshop.

Needle Felting – Bunnies with Olivia Johnson

Ready for spring? Join needle felting artist, Olivia Johnson, in learning the art and technique of creating bunnies. Students will use barbed needles and wool fibers to form these 3″ – 4″ creatures.

This class is an introduction to the art and technique of needle felting. Through a step-by-step process students will use barbed needles to create a cardinal from wool fibers. There will be plenty of room for creative expression. Perhaps you can even pose your bird on an icy branch. Each student will receive a kit to take with them to continue exploring at home.

Polymer Clay Bead Making with Casey Bemis

We have a fun idea for Valentine’s Day. Gather a group of friends or family of all ages and come to the NCCA-Artsplace and learn about bead making with polymer clay. Casey will demonstrate how to make an assortment of beads including Pandora-style, simple cane, folded, textured, stippled, carved and striped.

In this class jewelry artist, Casey Bemis, will guide you through the process of using metalsmithing skills to design your own unique earrings. Be prepared to use tools to hammer texture into your metal, use cold connections, cut shapes and then use appropriate findings to put your pieces all together.
