Class Fee: $10 Ages 8-14

Using watercolor washes and acrylic paint, artists will recreate the bold colors and whimsy of northern lights.

The Ultimate Summer Art Challenge

Monday, July 23 – Thursday, July 26,

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Ages 9-12.

This class is for the student that is not afraid of a challenge. Each day students will be given a new task and a choice of materials. Perhaps it will be a building constructed from cardboard and found objects or a sculpture from wood and wire. Keep your creative brain charged over the summer and accept this challenge.

Monday, August 6 – Thursday, August 9,

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Ages 6-8.

Find your passport and pack your bags for a trip to the other side of the world. In this class students will explore the cultures of the Asian continent. From clay sculptures to colorful celebrations; be prepared to appreciate these interesting cultures.

An art class for any youth interested in expanding their
creativity, exploring different media, and enjoying a
variety of art projects. Do you know a child that would
benefit from a great art experience? In this class
students will learn art basics in a fun and challenging

Thursdays 3:45-5:15 p.m. Ages 12-18
Class Fee $10 These classes are funded in part by grants from the FACF Youth Advisory Committee and Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs Minigrant Program.
These exciting and exploratory art classes are designed to give middle and high school students a chance to learn about art styles and mediums they may not get in a classroom. All materials provided. December 7 & 14 Portfolio Building and January 11 & 18 Glass Mosaic requires students attend both days.
November 9 – Fused Glass Ornaments
Using glass cutting tools, frit, stringers and a wide variety of fusible glass, students will make two of their own unique ornaments to be fired in the kiln. Ornaments will be fired in glass kiln by NCCA-Artsplace staff and picked up the following week.
November 30 – Silk Painting
A great gift idea, or a fashion accessory for fall, students will use resist and dye to paint a long silk scarf. Lines of resist create pools to isolate graphic color application, and help to create bold design.
December 7 & 14 – Portfolio Building
To prepare for college applications, scholarships and exhibits, artists need a good portfolio. Participants need to bring artwork to photograph, a resume and will complete a physical portfolio and a digital portfolio on a flash drive.
January 11 & 18 – Glass Mosaic Treasure Box
Using stained glass on tile, students will create a unique box top mosaic. We’ll take a look at the Italian masters, and learn to cut, piece and grout glass designs. Day one is cutting and applying glass; day two is all about grouting.

September 21 Glass Bead Making
Using Italian glass rods and hot head torches students will create several unique glass beads to fit a leather cuff.
September 28 Silver Clay
Cristine Grim will teach students the process of using silver clay, texture tools, and torch firing to create a silver pendant.
October 5 Needle Felted Bat with Olivia
Fiber artist Olivia Johnson will help students use felting needles, wool roving and embroidery materials to create a flying bat for Halloween festivities!
October 19 Theatrical Makeup
A paint based method of creating optical illusion, depth, and dramatic character on the human face. Students will work on themselves in addition to watching a live model demonstration. Just in time for costume planning!
